It is with great pleasure that we would like to introduce you to a flagship signing for Island Records – Owl City, aka Adam Young.

So one has to ask: how did this Owl City phenomenon begin?  How does a young artist writing songs underneath his garage, acoustic foam and books everywhere, reach an audience of millions? “I’m still trying to figure it out,” Adam laughs.  “Back in June of 2007 it kind of started on a whim.  My parents were away for the weekend, and wanting to be loud and make some noise and whatever, I began writing versions of what became my first, self released digital EP – Of June.  I put it up on MySpace the following month and didn’t tell anyone.”

Adam has since become a phenomenon on MySpace with more than 12 million profile views and 50 million plays, which is outstanding in such a short span of time. He had sold 25k albums and 200k digital tracks in the US before he had received any radio play or done any touring, which is simply jaw dropping.  It’s clear that Owl City is making a colossal impact on the music scene.

As listeners on MySpace climb into the tens of millions, Owl City gets set to release the debut single in the UK, Umbrella Beach; a track that conveys Adam’s trademark desire to escape in dreams, oceans and sky.  This will be followed by the hit single Fireflies on 22nd February, which made it to No.1 in both the Billboard Top 100 Chart and the itunes chart.  The album Ocean Eyes is released on 8th March.

Island Records and 1917 have a fantastic opportunity for you. We would like to offer music students and film / animation students the opportunity to either re-mix or make a music film / video for one of the Owl City tracks – ‘Umbrella Beach’ (first UK single) or ‘Fireflies’ . The best one being considered for inclusion on the official UK Owl City website. Parts for the track will be provided by us upon request via email to revolt@1917corp.com. Owl City will be looking and listening to all entries throughout this process as well so you may even receive direct feedback and advice from Island Marketing, Owl City management and Adam on their work. If there are some great ideas presented they could also be utilised in the marketing campaign in some area.

On top of this, the best piece of work submitted will also get the opportunity to come to the Owl City London show and meet the band.

So get to work and get those efforts in to revolt@1917corp.com, the address where you can also request parts for remix. Have a look at the video for Fireflies here and have a listen to Umbrella Beach too.
